Viennas major for culture and science Andreas Mailath-Pokorny overhanded Alfred Pritz the golden decoration for Services to the City of Vienna
City of Vienna Press Release:
Vienna (OTS) - Today, Thursday, Alfred Pritz, psychotherapist and rector of the Sigmund Freud Private University, received the golden decoration for Services to the City of Vienna. Many of his companions and friends assembled at the Town Hall to attend the ceremony, including Federal Minister ret. Maria Rauch-Kallat, Director General ret. Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, 2nd Distr. Council Chairman Karlheinz Hora, attorney Alfred Noll, media psychologist Peter Vitouch, and chief editor Peter Pelinka.
"Alfred Pritz has advocated the importance and significance of psychotherapy like almost no other in recent years," said Viennas major for culture and science Andreas Mailath-Pokorny during the ceremony. "As one of the initiators of the World Congress and the Psychotherapy Act as well as a co-founder and the current rector of the Sigmund Freud Private University, he has fought tirelessly for psychotherapy. This could only be done by someone like Alfred Pritz, who approaches any issue with immense energy and conviction."
Günther Ogris, social scientist, gave a presentation on the history of the city in his laudation, because "this is also the story of Alfred Pritz". He talked about the development of the Psychotherapy Act, the founding of universities and world congresses, and concluded with the words: "Psychotherapy has spread out over the world from Vienna and that is because of Alfred Pritz. He is without doubt the most influential psychotherapist in the world."
In his acceptance speech, Alfred Pritz emphasized that this decoration made him feel ambivalent. It was like a consolation prize for the defeats he also had to accept. Everything he had succeeded at in his life would not have been possible without his fellow companions and collaborators: "My achievements, they were always teamwork. The Sigmund Freud Private University, too, is inconceivable without the founding members, the professors and students."
